Discussion: Exploring AI Trends

Please submit all graded work via Canvas. Participation requirements and grading details are provided in Canvas.

This week focuses on exploring how generative AI tools are used in practice. Beyond those introduced in this course, new applications and use cases continue to emerge rapidly.

This discussion asks you to identify and reflect on emerging AI trends, technologies, or applications that you find promising or relevant.

Step 1: Identify 1–2 emerging AI trends or developments

Find one or two recent AI trends, technologies, tools, protocols, or use cases that you think are interesting or promising.

  • These should ideally not be tools already covered in this course, but may include broader developments such as new models, techniques, or systems
  • You may explore areas such as work, research, creativity, communication, or everyday tasks

Briefly describe:

  • what the application does
  • where you encountered it (e.g., article, social media, website)

Step 2: Explain why they matter

Explain why you selected these applications.

You may consider:

  • What makes them useful, novel, or impactful?
  • What problem do they address?
  • Who might benefit from them?

Step 3: Connect to your own context

Reflect on how these applications could be relevant to your own work, studies, or daily life.

For example:

  • How might you use this in your academic work or future career?
  • Could it change how you complete certain tasks?
  • Does it create new opportunities or efficiencies?

Step 4: Consider limitations and risks

Briefly discuss potential limitations, risks, or concerns.

You may consider:

  • What might not work well in practice?
  • Are there concerns related to accuracy, privacy, or overreliance?
  • What would you want to verify before using it?

Expected outcome

Your post should demonstrate:

  • Awareness of current AI trends and emerging applications
  • Ability to evaluate potential usefulness in real contexts
  • Critical thinking about both opportunities and limitations
